Big Wow! ComicFest 2012
If you read my APE recap you may have picked up on the fact that while it was a fun fairly successful time for Alex and I, it was also a bit underwhelming. In fact, judging by all the other venders I spoke with, this was a pretty common feeling. The Alternative Press Expo just isn’t as impressive as I’d hope it would be.
So you’d think we might be down on cons…and you’d be kind of right. I was pretty excited about doing WonderCon for the first time next year after I found out they had cheap options for poor people like us, until I realized that they had moved it from San Francisco to Anaheim. Why? Doesn’t So Cal have enough with Comic-Con?
Well, Anaheim means lots of gas for the drive, plus hotels, plus eating out, plus the table cost and merchandise cost. Basically it means more money than Alex and I can afford right now. We’ve not been immune to our country’s crippling recession, as my dwindling bank account and growing credit debt can attest to.
But at APE I learned about a con coming our beautiful city of San Jose next year, Big Wow! ComicFest.

This one looks like it is going to be a lot of fun with all kinds of stuff being sold and some big names making appearances like actor Thomas Jane, Jim Lee and John Romita Jr. (amongst others). Also, it’s a short drive from my house and had cheaper table fees! So I’m cautiously optimistic that it will be a better experience than APE.
